Principal stabbing case could be negotiated

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Attorneys in Memphis say the murder case against a teenager charged with fatally stabbing his high school principal could be headed for trial or settlement.

Eduardo Marmolejo (mar-meh-LAY’-hoh) appeared briefly in Shelby County Criminal Court on Monday.

Marmolejo is 18. He is charged with first-degree murder in the death of at Memphis Junior Academy Principal Suzette York, who was stabbed multiple times in the head and neck on Aug. 10, 2011.

The Commercial Appeal (http://bit.ly/18Ze430 ) reported prosecutor Reginald Henderson and defense attorney Leslie Ballin said they might soon announce whether the case will go to trial or be settled through plea negotiations.

The next scheduled hearing in the case is on Aug. 5.

Marmolejo remains in jail without bond.
