Proposed day program could ease overcrowding at jail

Carter County officials are considering to start a day worker program for certain local offenders in an effort to ease overcrowding in the county jail and save money.

“The jail right now in Carter County is already busting at the seams,” said Chief Deputy Ron Street, who noted that there were 286 prisoners in jail on Tuesday. The jail has a capacity of 296 prisoners.
