Pulaski hands Elizabethton pair of one-run defeats

PULASKI, Va. — Very much in the heat of a playoff hunt, Elizabehton saw its hopes take a hit the last two nights.

After dropping a 3-2, extra-inning decision Friday night, the Twins absorbed a 7-6 loss Saturday evening.

With seven games to go, Elizabethton (35-27) stands two games behind Greeneville for the West wild-card berth — trails Kingsport by 21⁄2 for division lead.

On Friday, the Mariners prevailed on Gabrial Franca’s one-out single in the bottom of the 11th, scoring Luke Guarnaccia. Garnaccia had taken second base with a single and throwing error, then Austin Malinowski (3-3) intentionally walked Dan Kemp to set up Franca.
