Like Ricky Nelson, one 12-yearold boy has been a “Travelin Man” this summer — making stops in many different locations to play America’s favorite past-time.
John “Boy” Ramsey has logged the equivalent of games, which began in March and ended this month, that totals over half a major league season.
As a member of the 12-and under East Tennessee Crusaders, the seventh-grade student at Hunter Elementary has played at some of the elite venues. He touched on some of those he visited and the team’s success throughout the summer.
“We played 15 weekends — 82 games,” said Ramsey. “We began practicing in January and played our first tournament at Greenville, South Carolina, in March. We won the USSAA 12-under World Series at Alabama Gulf Shores in our last tournament and got to play earlier at Cooperstown, New York. I think we finished 72-10. It was probably one of our best seasons ever.”
