Range offers its ‘farewell’

Near the end of each school year, members of the staff at Range Elementary usually try to do something fun to send their students home on a high note.

But this year seemed to call for something more.

With the school being closed for good at the end of the month, they decided to crank the celebration up a notch.

“Our (parent-teacher organization) has raised money all year, so we decided to spend it on our kids,” said Range Principal Pamela Espinosa. “This is our farewell to our community and to our students.”

On Friday, the Range community – students, staff, parents, and friends – gathered to celebrate the school’s final year with a “range” of activities that included inflatables, water fighting, a cookout, and a student production of “The Wizard of Oz,” that was performed on Thursday night and Friday morning.

“Today is all about Range Elementary’s children,” said Teresa Grindstaff, who teaches kindergarten. “We’re celebrating with them, having some fun, and trying to make some memories that they will hopefully never forget.”
