But instead of preparing children for middle school, it will provide educational opportunities to adults interested in trades such as welding, pipefitting, plumbing, refrigeration, valve repair and back-flow prevention, said Roger D. Lambert, the business manager, financial secretary, treasurer and trustee of the Northeast Tennessee United Association’s Plumbers and Pipefitters Union No. 538.

Lambert met with Director of Carter County Schools Kevin Ward, Royston Auction Company owner Travis Royston, Carter County Workforce Development Board Chairman Ronnie McAmis and attorney Richard Norris to finalize the purchase of the Range Elementary School real estate on Friday morning.

“I think it’s a perfect fit,” Ward said.

“This is going to be very beneficial to the community,” McAmis said.

Lambert said the facility will house the union’s offices, apprentice training center and an assembly room.
