Reader challenges school board to make tough calls

By

Editor:

I attended the budget meeting on July 9, 2012. The vast majority of speakers had their facts together and made very convincing presentations.

It seems the county school board wants more money to educate less students and we are at or near the bottom in achievement scores.

As I see the problem, we have too many schools. Until the county comes to grip with the situation it will require more and more money to do less. The only answer to the long improvement of our education system is to consolidate. I can understand the problem, i.e., school pride, etc., but someone is going to have to make the tough decision if the situation is ever going to improve.
