Reader responds to letter criticizing his Christian beliefs

To the editor:

Thanks Judy Garland for your letter criticizing my letter, it helps us see how a liberal thinks. While your letter says my letter was contrary to teachings of Jesus, you offer zero Bible verses to support your claim, only your opinion. Your opinion is that I’m not following the teachings of Jesus on being understanding and tolerant. What jumps out in Garland’s letter is the seven uses of “I” and “I will” and “were wise.”

Most liberals such as President Obama have an “I” or pride problem that often keeps them from knowing Jesus. To pick and chose what parts of the Bible you believe like Obama and other liberals do is arrogant and shows your trust is in yourself and your wisdom. Liberals see themselves as so wise they redefine words and institutions (marriage, etc.) and even redefine Jesus to help advance their agenda and then demonize or hate anyone who disagrees with them. The Bible tells us anyone who hates someone isn’t a Christian (1 John). The Bible doesn’t say Jesus was tolerant but it does say he was humble, the opposite of most liberals. Jesus showed intolerance in running the money changers from the temple and saying He will rule with a rod of iron after the seven years of tribulation.

Dr. John MacArthur says the role of government (Romans 13) is to punish evil doers and protect the good, therefore, Christians need to elect someone who understands what is good and what is evil. Everything in Romans 1, God says is evil, Obama says is good and should be encouraged. Obama’s actions show he believes in sexual freedom, Communism, socialism and the Muslim book the Koran which Obama calls holy.

Many believe Obama is a Muslim because he changed his name to a Muslim name while in college. Obama’s popularity among Muslims resulted in more than double the number of Muslims at the 2012 Democratic National Convention. Obama agrees with his pastor who the media didn’t want the public to find out about who taught Obama for 20 years the greatest evil in the world is America and Israel! Although Obama had declared every June of his presidency Homosexual Pride Month. This June, Obama was the first president to declare June Homosexual Pride Month and also say in the proclamation he supported same-sex marriage. Obama has refused to sign Christian proclamations.

Garland was wrong in saying the Democratic Party wants to make abortion rare. The word “rare” once was in their platform but now they want to make it affordable or free. See page 18, Democratic Platform says, “The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to make decisions regarding her pregnancy, including a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay. Democrats support access to affordable family planning services and President Obama and Democrats will continue to stand up to Republican efforts to defund Planned Parenthood Health Centers.”

Christians put aside others’ opinions, and even put aside their opinions, wisdom, party loyalty and emotions and base all decisions on the Bible. The Bible tells us in James 4, “To him that knows to do good and doesn’t do it, it is sin.” Therefore it’s good to vote against Obama and his taxpayer funding of abortion through his funding of Planned Parenthood and his redefining marriage both of which encourage and will increase abortions and homosexuality. It’s good to vote against Obama’s mistreatment of Israel and the booing of God at the Democratic Convention. The Bible says choose life and blessing, not death and cursing. Love your neighbor in the womb. Although you will have blood on your hands if you vote for abortion, the good news is even if you have committed abortion or any sin God will forgive you if you put your trust in Jesus and have His blood covering your sins. The Bible tells us God stores up wrath for years (Romans 2). Many believe America is at the tipping point. Each of us and America is living on borrowed time; don’t delay giving your life to Jesus. Psalm 9:17, “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all nations that forget God.” It’s not if, but when, God pours out his wrath all American wisdom, iphones, ipads, laptops, wifi, apps, texting, Facebook and other social media aren’t going to save us! Only Jesus can save each of us and America from the wrath to come!

This letter contains a breathtaking number of factual errors… but I will focus on one. President Obama is not a Muslim. You say “many people believe Obama is a Muslim,” but the question is… Do you believe he is a Muslim? The president is a Christian…. period. Both Gov. Romney and President Obama are great fathers, and men of faith. Romney’s Mormonism grants him the same core set of Christian values as President Obama. I would also add that both of these candidates would use political pragmatism to guide them and not faith. (I would cite Romney’s previous views on abortion when he was governor)

The question we must as ourselves is… do we want a president to determine policy positions based on their faith? We are a country of christians, jews, muslims, hindus, and a number of other faiths… We should ask our public servants to create policy based on good judgement not theology.

I trust an argument made with facts, not an argument based on your interpretation of the bible.

    • D.D. Nave is merely spreading gossip — if not outright lying — about President Obama and his faith.
And what does the New Testament say about liars?:

Revelation 21:8 King James Bible (Cambridge Ed.):
…all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

    • Robert Szabo says:

Oh yes he is ,You need to read why he changed his name to Barack Hussein Obama from a nice Christian name of Barry Soetoro,He is the one who said in a live interview that once a muslim always a muslim, look it up on youtube

      • Travis Brown says:

I know the video your referring to… it was debunked as false last month.

The president is a Christian, and just because he has respected the beliefs of moderate muslims during his speeches, does not mean he follows the teachings of the Koran. No one is in a position to judge this man for his faith… judge him on the merits. We can disagree on his performance as president, but his religion is not in question.

  2. Robert Szabo says:

What I do not understand is ,why do people move here knowing this is the bible belt and try to change this part of the country to their likings ,If you don’t like how these people live and want there part of this country to stay, then MOVE ,go back up North .As a Catholic I exept there way of life ,Its America and its the South, so sorry they win.

  3. Neither the Old Testament (Hebrew Bible) or the New Testament books of the Christian Bible explicitly prohibited abortion.

The Hebrew terms ruach (literally “wind”), and neshama (literally “breath”) are used to describe the soul or spirit.

Jewish law holds that human life begins at birth, based on Genesis 2:7:”And the Lord God made man from the dust of the earth, breathing into him the breath of life: and man became a living soul.”

The rabbinical interpretation is (most often) that human zygotes, blastocysts, embryos, and fetuses do not have souls.

    God never explicitly prohibited abortion.

    Moses was born a Jew.

The six hundred and thirteen laws (commandments) found in the Old Testament that were revealed or attributed to Moses never explicitly prohibited abortion.

    Moses never explicitly prohibited abortion.

    Jesus was born a Jew.

    Jesus never explicitly prohibited abortion.

Mary, mother of Jesus, was born a Jew.

Mary, mother of Jesus, never explicitly prohibited abortion.

The Twelve Disciples were born as Jews.

The Twelve Disciples never explicitly prohibited abortion.

Saul of Tarsus (the Apostle Paul) never explicitly prohibited abortion.

Pope Innocent III (1161-1216) decreed that a monk who had arranged for his lover to have an abortion was not guilty of murder if the fetus was not “animated” at the time and that the soul enters the body of the fetus at the time of “quickening” – when the woman first feels movement of the fetus.

The image of Pope Innocent III was immortalized during 1950 as a one of 23 marble bas-reliefs of great historical lawmakers installed on the chamber walls of the U.S. House of Representatives.

The explicit prohibition of abortion is not biblical, but rather, papal in origin.

  4. YouTube: Betty Bowers Explains Abortion to Everyone Else

“Mrs. Betty Bowers, America’s Best Christian, takes a moment out of her busybody day, to settle once and for all America’s most contentious subject: abortion. This video may offend some. But, then again, the truth always does.”

  5. visitor says:

Well, when you look like a duck, walk like a duck, sound like a duck and
act like a duck…. then chances are that you’re probably a duck. When
the president misrepresented the Bible in his speech to indicate that
it is not a good source to base government then that raised a red flag.
However when he accurately quoted from the Quran, then that also sent
up a warning. But then there were other signs of where he stands: He
fails to provide religious conscience protection. A good example is forcing Catholics and Christians to pay for abortions. He declined to host services for the National Prayer Day (a day established by federal law) at the White House. While Obama does not host any National Day of Prayer event at the White
House, he does host White House Iftar dinners in honor of Ramadan. Under Obama the White House
avoids traditional biblical holidays and events but regularly recognizes
major Muslim holidays, as evidenced by its 2010 statements on Ramadan,
Eid-ul-Fitr, Hajj, and Eid-ul-Adha. Obama even deliberately omitted the phrase about “the Creator” when
quoting the Declaration of Independence – an omission he has made on no
less than 7 times. Obama supposedly wears a band on his finger that he has worn since he was single. The first half of the Shahada is supposedly inscribed on it—that is, the Islamic
phrase “There is no God except Allah,” a common refrain of practicing
Muslims. The Obama administration defended a decision to meet with
members of the Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood but he snubbed the Prime
Minister of Israel. The Obama administration recently planned to transfer $450 million in cash to
Egypt but the U.S. House blocked it. The money is part of the nearly $1
billion in debt relief that Obama had promised Egypt earlier this
year. Then there is the mystery of why Obama went to bed as fine
America men were brutally murdered in Benghazi. Yes, I believe Obama
walks like a Muslim, talks like a Muslim and acts like a Muslim….
which leads me to believe that he is probably a Muslim.

  6. The number of factual and grammatical errors in this letter leads me to believe DD Nave is a simpleton and should not be attacked, but the Star should not print garbage like this. The views expressed here are more in line with the Taliban than that of the United States.

  7. jbmkj says:

Mr. Szabo said the most honest statement on this post: “What I do not understand is ,why do people move here knowing this is the
bible belt and try to change this part of the country to their likings
,If you don’t like how these people live and want there part of this
country to stay, then MOVE ,go back up North .As a Catholic I exept
there way of life ,Its America and its the South, so sorry they win.”

As a lifelong southern it embarrasses me that we were last in the country to decide slavery was wrong (and we fought it tooth and nail), we didn’t feel in the south that desegregating schools was right either. We need to be leaders here not followers of old ways of thinking. We need to put up the old white hoods and pick up a book. Look how poorly the southern states perform when compared to other schools in the country. Our priorities are completely skewed. But let me guess all thats Obama’s fault too…
