Readers: Stand up taxpayers and be heard
Editor:
Wake up citizens of Carter County! We the taxpayers are being taken to the cleaners once again. It happened last year with unnecessary property tax increases and now we are threatened with the same old fairy tale, asking us to dig a little deeper into our pockets for additional tax funding. Whatever happened to the promise of cutting taxes and hauling in wasteful spending of our tax dollars?
We, the citizens, entrusted our elected commissioners with the obligation and fiduciary responsibility regarding the spending of tax dollars. It appears that many of these same commissioners could care less about the ordinary citizen or small business owner. I pray that they will see the light and hold the line on spending and refrain from raising taxes.
County and city governments across America are making tough and wise decisions, living within their means, but not here in Carter County as of late. Just look at our new county jail, for example, millions of tax dollars wasted. Next up, is our county school system and their most recent request for more tax dollars to fund a failing system.
The over-staffing of county schools and the apparent mismanagement of funding by our school administration is costing the taxpayers millions of dollars each and every year. This wasteful spending should no longer be tolerated or approved by the county commission.
If you are concerned as I am, stand up and let your voices be heard.
