Although her colleagues call her the “Carter County Cheerleader,” in truth, Relay For Life Team Development Chairwoman Kathy Thomason doesn’t want to have to participate in the organization’s kickoff event.
“We don’t want to have kickoff next year,” Thomason said. “We want a cure.”
It was with that singular goal – curing cancer – in mind that Thomason and dozens of like-minded individuals gathered at the Truman Clark Annex Thursday night to officially begin the 2014 Relay For Life season.
“I’m so fired up,” said Carter County Relay For Life Chairwoman Genna Price, during the event. “I just want you all to feel the same fire and the same burn. Let’s do this.”
With the season officially open, Price said she expected contributions from both members and non-members to increase.
“Now that kickoff is here, I feel like everybody will be motivated to start fundraising to try to meet our goal,” Price said.
