The Elizabethton/Carter County Tourism Association is looking for a new director after a decision to “revamp” the tourism development program.
Carter County Tomorrow President Tom Anderson said Annika Hampton is no longer Carter County tourism coordinator, saying “It was mutually decided that it was time to part ways. It was a necessary decision to make the changes we have planned.”
Hampton’s last day with the tourism department was Friday, April 19. She had been with the tourism association since May 2010, when she started working as an intern through East Tennessee State University.
Anderson said the association would continue with projects Hampton had started and will work to start new ones as well.
The goal of the reorganization is a tourism department more active and present in the community, Anderson said, with a new focus on adventure tourism.
“We want to be more engaged in the community,” he said. “We plan to partner in more events and to host events of our own.”
He said the tourism association would bring more attention to the historic and cultural offerings of Carter County.
