Picking this season’s All-Carter/Johnson County girls basketball squad proved to be one of the most difficult tasks ever for the sports staff at the Elizabethton Star. Four of the six teams represented won 18 or more games, and three made it to the state tournament. And the Lady Longhorns were in almost every one that they played.
Heading up this year’s team is Presbyterian College signee Brooke Rhodes, who was tabbed as player of the year for the second straight year. The senior edged out Hampton’s Dorothy Dugger for that honor.
Rhodes led Cloudland to a 23-win season and the state tournament on a squad that lost five of its top seven players due to torn ACLs and some medical issues. The Class A Miss Basketball finalist averaged 19 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots per game.
