A Roan Mountain man died early Tuesday morning when his vehicle slid off a road and crashed into a creek in Banner Elk, N.C.

The accident was reported on North Carolina State Route 184 and Banner Road, near Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, N.C., at 8:02 a.m.

Officer O.L. Smith of the Banner Elk Police Department said the vehicle slid off the roadway due to slick conditions caused by the weather and ran into Shawneehaw Creek, which feeds in the Mill Pond at Lees-McRae College.
