BRISTOL — Roan Mountain’s Garrett Freeman drove to the top of the pack last weekend at Bristol Dragway.
Freeman topped Corryton’s Devin Kiser in both Saturday and Sunday’s Junior Dragster Division I finals for the top trophy.
Elizabethton’s Taylor Gill was upset by Bristol’s Ben Denton in the final round of Saturday’s Junior Dragster Division II action.
In the advanced classes, Todd Whited and Chris Johnson claimed Super Pro victories during the final weekend of DER Bracket Racing competition prior to the June 15-17 Ford NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals.
Whited, of Richlands, Va., drove to the win over Trevor Denton from Bristol, Va on Saturday. Maryville’s Johnson claimed Sunday’s victory when his competition, Church Hill’s Allen Byrd, turned on the red light in the final round.
Bluff City’s Gary Blevins earned Saturday’s Pro division win over Tim Griffith of Cedar Bluff, Va. Sunday’s Pro category win went to C.J. Hodges of Boone, N.C., while Kevin Wideman of Mooresville ended up on the losing end of the battle.
Cody Spears from Mt. Carmel defeated Bristol’s John Isom in a double break-out affair in Saturday’s Sportsman category action.
On Sunday, Isom had his turn in the spotlight, ousting Don Evans from Abingdon, Va.
Katie Street of Cedar Bluff, Va. won Sunday’s Trophy division class over Tanya Elliott, also from Cedar Bluff.
On Saturday, Dustin Lee of Mohawk defeated Bluff City’s Jerry Turner in the final round of DER Motorcycle class. On Sunday, Turner had his day, winning the category.
