Ronnie N. Holtsclaw, 71, of Roan Mountain, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, February 13, 2014, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.
He was born on May 5, 1942 in Carter County, Tenn., to the late Dave and Kathryn Arnett Holtsclaw.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ivalee Holtsclaw, and a grandson, Zachary Brooks.
Ronnie was a lifetime and faithful member of Hopson Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, where he served as a song leader, trustee and treasurer. He was in the Navy, where he served in California and Japan on the U.S. Whipperwill Ship. He had worked at Paty Lumber Company, Elizabethton Lumber, Tetrick Funeral Home of Roan Mountain and Big John’s Closeouts of Elizabethton.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Judy Whitehead Holtsclaw, of the home; daughters, Kimberly Laws and husband Keith and Melisa Hill; grandchildren, Caroline and Connor Laws and Brady Hill; sisters, Gail Carroll, Jo Breedlove, Charlene Drown and husband Bill and Darlene Mynatt and husband Jim; and brothers, Tim Holtsclaw and wife Rita and Ken Holtsclaw and wife Vivian. Several nieces and nephews, many friends, church family, neighbors and The Whitehead family also survive.
The comfort and honor of your presence is requested at the funeral service for Mr. Holtsclaw at 7 p.m. Sunday, February 16, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Bob Campbell, Rev. Carl Grindstaff and Rev. Charlie Trivette officiating. Music will be under the direction of Gladys Winfrey, Oma Coleman and Margaret Smith. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service, or at the residence at anytime. The graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, February 17, in the Peters Cemetery on Ripshin. Active pallbearers will be Brad Carroll, Daniel Carroll, Rex Whitehead, Jeff Whitehead, Ron Whitehead and Jack Whitehead. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Monday.
