This week, the students of one particular Carter County school won’t be the only ones who are tested.
On Thursday morning, one of the schools in the Carter County Schools system will conduct what was described as a “full-scale” emergency exercise.
According to Alex Lester, operations manager for the Elizabethton/Carter County Emergency Management Agency, the idea behind the drill is to gauge not only the school’s readiness, but also the preparedness of the county’s emergency workers, in the event of calamity.
“The exercise is going to test our first responders’ ability to react to a school emergency, as well as the faculty and staff in the school system,” Lester said.
