After months of final preparations, the Elizabethton/Carter County Animal Shelter will be moving to its new facility this weekend.
Shelter Manager April Jones told the ECCAS Advisory Board she plans to move the animals and materials from the shelter starting Saturday. She said the shelter would remain closed from Saturday until Friday, Dec. 27, to allow for the move to be completed and for the Christmas holiday.
“We’re going to start on Saturday and see how far we can get,” Jones said. “We will work on Sunday and into Monday. We will be closed for the Christmas holiday, too, after that.”
The new shelter was mostly completed in September but additional outdoor kennels had to be completed to be able to house all of the dogs from the current shelter. Perimeter fencing also had to be installed around the shelter property. With those additions complete, the shelter can move into the new building.
