Almost two weeks after a Stoney Creek gun store was robbed of more than $15,000 in merchandise and cash, the Carter County Sheriff’s Department has arrested two men suspected of the crime.
Sheriff Chris Mathes said that an undercover operation on Friday night resulted in the arrests of two men – whose names have not been released – and the recovery of 46 firearms that were allegedly stolen from Blue Springs Gun Shop.
The robbery was reported on Dec. 1 by the shop’s proprietors, Melvin and Moira Oliver. The Olivers told sheriff’s deputies that their store, which is operated out of their home, was burglarized in the morning while the two were away at church. Initial reports from the CCSD indicated that 49 guns, 56 boxes of ammunition, and $1,000 in cash were stolen from the home.
At this time, the sheriff’s department is not releasing any additional information on the arrests. Mathes has scheduled a press conference to discuss the investigation, and the arrests, on Monday.
