‘Significant’ gas leak prompts road, business closures Monday

Several businesses were evacuated and roads were closed Monday morning near downtown Elizabethton due to a “significant” gas line break.

Captain Steve Murray said the Elizabethton Fire Department was dispatched to the vicinity of Maupin’s Shell, located at 101 East Elk Ave., on Monday at 8:47 a.m. on the report of a gas leak. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a mist coming from an area where crews had been working.
