Smith County conquers Unaka girls

Unaka’s girls couldn’t replicate its first-half performance.
Smith County’s Callie Hackett and Casey Gregory could.
The Lady Owls used 20-point games by their two standouts to outlast Unaka 52-42 in the opening round of the Johnson City Honda Invitational Wednesday night at Bobby Snyder Gymnasium.
With the loss, Unaka will face Unicoi County, a 65-54 loser to Daniel Boone, in the losers’ bracket at 2:30 p.m. this afternoon.
“We haven’t played since December 20,” said Unaka coach Wes Wright. “I thought the first two quarters we didn’t play real bad. You know how a team can play rusty? We didn’t play rusty. We missed some shots, but defensively, we did a bad job.
