Some districts struggling to garner commissioner candidates

By

With the deadline to place names on the upcoming Republican Primary and General Election ballots less than two weeks away, it seems Carter County currently does not have enough interested commissioner candidates in some of its districts.

As of Thursday afternoon, there were a total of 47 qualifying candidates vying for a chance to represent Carter County in some capacity.

Carter County Administrator of Elections Tracy Harris has compiled the list of candidates that have already submitted all qualifying paperwork to her office.

So far in the race to elect Carter County commissioners, some districts — the 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 7th — do not have the three necessary qualifying candidates, while the 4th District has zero qualifying candidates.

As it stands, the Carter County Commission is made up of three commissioners per eight total districts in the county.
