Spring football: Cyclones start looking to fill voids

With a number of the team’s starting offensive and defensive players contributing to the school’s baseball, tennis and track and field programs, Elizabethton’s football team used its two weeks of spring practice to address its key losses.
After graduating a talented crop of seniors from last year’s Class 3-A semifinal run, positions on the offensive line and within the linebacking corps on defense were the primary points of emphasis for Shawn Witten and his staff.
“There’s two big areas of emphasis going into our football season that we had to really see,” Witten said Wednesday. “We graduated four senior offensive linemen and every linebacker but one. It gave us a chance to work with a lot of the younger guys and pretty much break in a new offensive line.
