State: Charge dropped, TCATE teacher won’t return

By

Although a judge dismissed a criminal charge against a former Tennessee College of Applied Technology teacher, the Tennessee Board of Regents says his status with the school will not change.

On Friday, General Sessions Court Judge John W. Walton dismissed a charge of communicating a threat to a school employee that was levied against David Scott Simerly, a former HVAC instructor at TCAT’s Elizabethton campus.

Despite the dismissal, however, TBR Director of Communications Monica Greppin-Watts said Simerly will not return to his former position.
