Starting Friday it was wrestle, wrestle, wrestle for the three grapplers from Elizabethon and the lone Warrior from Happy Valley. All that wrestling brought back a medal for the Cyclones.

Junior Seth Malone placed in sixth place, becoming only the fifth wrestler in Elizabethon history to medal at the event and the first since the divisions split into the new small school-large school format.

“I really think that he wrestled the best tournament that he has ever wrestled and did it at the right time,” Elizabethon head coach Donnie Shipley said.

The junior — in only his second year of wrestling — lost in the first round to Robert Owens, who eventually placed third. Malone was able to claw his way through the losers bracket. The run included a victory over number one wrestler in the state, Cole Mattherly, in the consolation bracket.
