Storytelling walks offer journey through city’s Christmas past

By

The Front Porch Storytellers will host Christmas storytelling walks in downtown Elizabethton this holiday season.

Storyteller Mary Jane Kennedy said the walks would include traditional Christmas stories along with tales of historic Christmases in Elizabethton. Kennedy and storyteller Chad Bogart did a large amount of research for the Christmas walk and interviewed a number of Carter County residents to find out what a historic Christmas would have been like in Elizabethton.

“Some of the stories are funny, and some are about traditions that have been passed down through the area,” Kennedy said. “We are going to tell about some of the older businesses in town, how they celebrated and some of the things they sold for the Christmas season.”

The walks will stop at different points through downtown Elizabethton, and will include a variety of stops at different historical areas. The walks will also include some caroling and maybe a game or two.
