Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area has earned statewide recognition for its historical interpretations.
Park manager Jennifer Bauer brought the “Excellence in Interpretation” award back to Sycamore Shoals after she was presented with the award at the Tennessee state park manager’s conference last week. Park awards have not been presented to Tennessee state parks for nearly 15 years.
“When they presented us with the award, I just about hit the floor,” Bauer said. “It’s been about 15 years since they’ve given out awards for parks, so we were really surprised. No one was really expecting it.”
Bauer said that historical interpretation is the passion of Sycamore Shoals. The park holds historical reenactments throughout the year, including the popular, well-attended outdoor drama, “Liberty! The Saga of Sycamore Shoals,” held at the end of July.
