Sycamore Shoals to host second Canvas Exhibit

By

The second Canvas Exhibit by Watauga Valley Art League will open Sunday, July 29, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. in the Visitors Center at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park in Elizabethton. Artwork displayed can be painted in any media on canvas, even watercolor by member artists. Works will be displayed in the Lobby at Sycamore Shoals from July 29 through Aug. 30.

The Canvas Exhibit is now alternating annual years with the Newell Hendershot Watermedia Exhibition. It will not be judged except by the people attending the reception. There will be three ribbons for the People’s Choice top three picks. Come to the reception and be a part of choosing the three paintings to be awarded ribbons. The Meet-the-Artists Reception will be held Sunday, July 29, from 1:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. Most of the artwork displayed will be for sale.

The Watauga Valley Art League formed in the fall of 1969 and has grown to approximately 100 members that include professionals, art teachers, hobbyists, amateur artists and lovers of fine art. The League sponsors a minimum of four shows a year, provides scholarships, promotes art by teaching courses throughout the area and sponsors art workshops.

The park is located at 1651 W. Elk Ave., Elizabethton. For more information, call Show Co-Chair Patsy Kelley Reading at 743-7799 or Sheryl Daniels at 232-1585. Visit the League website at www.watauga-valley-artists.com.
