Sycamore Stitchers to hold 18th annual Quilt Show

By

The members of the Sycamore Stitchers invite the public to attend the group’s 18th annual Quilt Show in Elizabethton.

The Quilt Show is sponsored by Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area and will be held at the park from Thursday, Oct. 4, to Sunday, Oct. 7. Times for the show are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The Sycamore Stitchers Quilt Show is entering its 18th year, and there is always something new and exciting at each show. Today’s quilters will surely leave a rich legacy for future generations.

The show will feature Bed Quilts, Wall Hangings, Holiday Wall Hangings, Small/Miniature Wall Hangings, Baby Quilts and Juvenile/Lap Quilts. Antique Quilts will be displayed on a bed and turned frequently for viewing.

Members of the Sycamore Stitchers Quilting Group will also be exhibiting their completed challenge quilts. This year’s challenge is called “A Sycamore Stitchers’ Christmas” and will feature something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. There is always something for everyone in these creative challenges.

The show is not only for members of the Sycamore Stitchers. The group wants to showcase that quilt or quilted wall hanging you spent hours designing, piecing and quilting. To exhibit a quilt in the show, pick up free information and applications at the UT Extension Office in Carter County, Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area or Elizabethton and area fabric shops. Those interested in participating in the show can also call Pat Dobes at 542-9400 or Jeanie Johnson at 542-6173.

The exhibit will showcase talent that will be judged only by the spectators. A People’s Choice Award will be given in nine categories excluding antique quilts.

Gloves will be provided so visitors can touch and examine the quilts. Visitors are also encouraged to photograph any or all of the quilts. Visitors will be able to vote for their favorite in each category except antiques.

The show is open to the public and free of charge. For additional information, call Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park at 543-5808.
