TuesdayNov. 5
The American Legion Post 49 and its Ladies Auxiliary will hold their monthly business meeting at the Legion Post on Watauga Avenue. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m., followed by the business meeting of the Post and Auxiliary at 7 p.m.  All members or potential new members are asked to attend.

 
The Watauga Association of Genealogists will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Johnson City Public Library, 100 W. Millard St. The guest speaker for the meeting will be Jerry Alan Sayers, a history teacher at Science Hill High School in Johnson City. He is also a member of the board of directors for Rocky Mount Museum and a cast member of “Liberty,” the official outdoor drama for the state of Tennessee. He will speak on the Overmountan Men and the Battle at King’s Mountain, S.C. For more information, call Dr. Jim Wilson at 283-0318.

 
WednesdayNov. 6
Literacy Night will be held at Valley Forge Elementary School from 6 to 8 p.m. The event will feature free games, snacks and fun. Students and their families are welcome.

 
ThursdayNov. 7
The Southern Countrymen Band will perform at Campbell’s Country Showcase Palace, Bristol, Va., from 7:30-10:30 p.m. For more information, call 913-3205.

 
FridayNov. 8
A free Veterans Breakfast will be held at 8 a.m. at the Elizabethton Senior Center. Guest speaker will be Dean Batchelder, SGM, U.S. Army Retired. The center’s staff is proud to serve a free breakfast to all veterans and those currently serving in the military. Menu will consist of biscuits/gravy, sausage, scrambled eggs, apple butter, juice, and coffee. Charge for a guest is $3. Center membership is not required.

 
The Southern Countrymen Band will perform at the Outdoorsman’s Building, 4535 Highway 11W, Kingsport, from 7:30-10:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $1 for children. For more information, call 913-3205.

 
The Elizabethton Senior Dance Club will hold a dance at the Elizabethton Elks Lodge, No. 1847, 1000 N. Sycamore St., from 7 to 10 p.m. Those attending the dances are asked to bring finger foods to share. There is a $6 door charge.

 
The Rambling Rose Band will provide the music for the dances. The club holds dances twice monthly. Everyone is welcome.

 
SaturdayNov. 9
Hampton Lodge No. 750 will hold its annual Thanksgiving dinner at the Lodge Hall from 4 to 7 p.m. Everyone is invited for good food and fellowship. The meal will include turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, slaw, dessert and drink. A donation of $8 for adults and $5 for children is suggested.

 
Joyfest 2013, a benefit concert for East Tennessee Christian Home & Academy, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at Seeger Chapel on the campus of Milligan College. The concert will feature the Appalachian Trail Band, Fiddlin’ Carson Peters Band, Greater Glory and the Tyler Williams Band. General seating is $7. Reserved seating is $10. For tickets, advanced seated or more information, call 542-4423. All proceeds will benefit ETCHA.

 
SundayNov. 10
A free soup bean and cornbread dinner will be held to honor all veterans at the Elizabethton Parks and Recreation building, 300 W. Mill St. The dinner will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. to honor veterans for all they have done for their country. The event is being hosted by the Carter County/Elizabethton Chamber of Commerce Youth Leadership Program. Donations are greatly appreciated.

 
MondayNov. 11
A Veterans Day Program will be held at Hampton High School at 10 a.m. Following the program, veterans and their family members are invited to a dinner that will be held at the Hampton Christian Church Fellowship Hall. The program is being held by the HHS faculty and students. Teacher Bill Anderson is in charge.

 
The Butler Ruritan will hold a free luncheon to honor all veterans from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Meal will consist of meatloaf, corn, mashed potatoes, green beans, cooked apples, tossed salad, roll/butter, dessert and drink. Guests are encouraged and invited to enjoy the meal for $6. Parking is available at the Ruritan building above the Butler Volunteer Fire Department on Piercetown Road.

 
A Veterans Day Choral Concert will be presented at 7:30 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church, 1114 Broad St., Elizabethton. The Elizabethton High School Advanced Ensembles and the Elizabethton Choral Club will team up to present a concert to honor America and its veterans of the Armed Services. The public is cordially invited to attend with a special invitation to all veterans.

 
English as a Second Language will be offered Mondays at Memorial Presbyterian Church. The church is located on F and Roan Streets, Elizabethton. All internationals who are interested in learning to speak English or improve their English are welcome. Rocky Top Gun Permit School will hold a Tennessee Handgun Permit training class beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the B&K Community Center on the Old Bristol Highway in Elizabethton.
