Townsend stifles North; Longhorns beaten by East

A one-hit pitching performance from sophomore southpaw Hunter Townsend was the spark Happy Valley needed in its District 1-AA Tournament opener.
The Warriors took advantage of Sullivan North mistakes with a three-run second inning and held serve for a 4-0 quarterfinal win over the Raiders Friday at Milligan College.
“I thought Hunter did a great job,” said Happy Valley coach Caleb Moore. “He worked ahead of a lot of hitters. When you throw strikes, good things happen. He’s struggled a little bit as of late, but we have all of the confidence in the world in him. He’s a great sophomore and he’ll be getting better every year.
“We’re excited. It’s a new season and right now we’re 1-0.”
