Treated water is flowing to Fish Springs/Little Milligan residents

After a decade of politics, dead-ends and delays, residents in the Fish Springs and Little Milligan communities of Carter County are finally able to realize the dream of a consistent water supply. The Watauga River Regional Water Authority publicly announced yesterday that the ten-year effort to develop a water system in the two communities has been officially completed.

Following the July 30 bond closing on the Little Wilbur Water Treatment Plant, construction crews have gone back to work on the project. Steve Holtermann of Jacobs, Inc. (pictured) told WRRWA’s board of directors Tuesday afternoon that one of the primary areas left to be finished is in the area of electrical wiring. Following the Labor Day holiday, TVA will also conduct a lake drawdown in order to allow for work to be undertaken on the raw water intake equipment. Holtermann said that project is expected to take around one to two weeks to complete.

During their monthly meeting Tuesday afternoon at the Workforce Development Complex in Elizabethton, the WRRWA Board of Directors received the final status report from Gary Tysinger, one of the project managers from Tysinger, Hampton and Partners of Johnson City. Tysinger announced that the Fish Springs/Little Milligan Water System is fully operational and providing water to nearly 100 customers.
