Members of the Tennessee Highway Patrol Critical Incident Response Team surveyed a crash
scene on Friday afternoon, one day after two children were killed in a two-vehicle accident on
Highway 19E in Valley Forge.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol reported that on Thursday evening, 2-year-old Dalton Moffitt and 7-year-old Jonathan Nye, both of Elizabethton, died when the sedan they were passengers in crossed the median on U.S. Highway 19E near Stateline Road and struck a mini-van.
The sedan’s driver, Katrina Nye, and a passenger, Jodie Hensley, were injured and taken to the hospital. The mini-van’s driver, Amy Alexander, and her passenger, Lindsey Sluder, were in the mini-van. They were also taken to the hospital.
A drug and alcohol test was ordered for Nye, who Trooper Edward Tester said lost control of her vehicle as she was driving southbound on 19E and crossed the median.
