Twins cap season with 12-inning triumph

The Elizabethton Twins missed the Appalachian League playoffs for the first time since 2004, but sent the fans home happy on Friday night at Joe O’Brien Field with an 8-7, 12-inning victory over East Division champion Pulaski.

Center fielder Zach Granite drove home Rory Rhodes with a hit to the gap in right center against the sixth Mariners pitcher of the night to give lefty Austin Malinowski (4-3) the win.

The “pitcher” in question was actually second baseman Jordan Cowan who was pressed into service by Pulaski manager Chris Prieto to save his staff with the opening game of the playoffs coming tonight for the Mariners at Bluefield.
