Twins’ four-run comeback erased

KINGSPORT — The breaks just aren’t going Elizabethton’s way this summer.
After rallying ahead in the eighth inning from a three-run deficit, the defending Appalachian League champion Twins saw Kingsport bounce back for a 5-4 decision on Tuesday night at Hunter Wright Stadium.
With two out in the ninth, the Mets’ Jeff Diehl slugged a run-scoring double off the wall to knot the affair. Following an intentional walk, Jeyckol De Leon blooped the game-winning RBI single into shallow left-center field.
“We’d been pitching that guy pretty tough all night, but nobody’s trying any harder than our guys are,” Elizabethton manager Ray Smith said. “They just found some openings in our defense there, and got lucky. “
The Twins fall 3.5 games out of first place in the West Division behind Greeneville. Kingsport is a half game behind Elizabethton.
