Two injured in Lynn Avenue auto accident

Two people were hospitalized Monday evening in a crash on North Lynn Avenue at East Cottage Avenue in Elizabethton.

Officer James Deese of the Elizabethton Police Department said Nancy Simmers, 65, of 627 Race St., Elizabethton, was driving a 2005 Ford Taurus westbound on East Cottage Avenue and failed to yield the right of way, striking another vehicle. The second vehicle, a 2000 Toyota Camry driven by Steven Hodges, 34, of 652 Toll Branch Road, Johnson City, was traveling southbound on Lynn Avenue.

One of the vehicles ran into a flower bed at McDonald’s along Lynn Avenue. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage, Deese reported.

The Carter County Rescue Squad took both drivers by ambulance to Sycamore Shoals Hospital for minor injuries, according to an accident report. The Elizabethton Fire Department also responded to the crash, which was reported at 7:42 p.m.
