Unaka girls, Hunter boys get job done

By

Junior High basketball was like a spirited town-hall meeting inside of Unaka Elementary’s Gymnasium on Thursday night. Hunter and the Junior Rangers took to the hardwood with a large turnout on hand to show their support.

Both schools split the ticket, with the Lady Rangers taking the girls’ game 49-20 before Hunter collected the boys’ tilt, 50-38.

Hunter found the going tough against coach Lacey Dugger’s Lady Rangers from the outset. Sarah Tipton’s runner to start the game put Unaka in front to stay.

Coach Nate Treadway’s Tigers started the game at moped speed, but that would change after the first quarter. The Rangers used eight points by Tyler Burke and two more from Davy Ensor to take a 10-8 lead after one.
