By Ashley Rader
The United Way of Elizabethton/Carter County will be hosting a fundraiser during the Saturday night Elizabethton Twins game against the Danville Braves.
The event, Christmas in August, will begin at 6 p.m. with the ballgame starting at 7 p.m. Prior to the game, the Bullseye Band will perform and there will be a dunking booth. The United Way will also be serving hot fudge cakes. Sheriff Chris Mathes is one of the participants scheduled to be in the dunk tank. The hot fudge cakes will be $4 each and to do the dunk tank will be $1 for three throws.
Tickets to the game and concert are a $5 donation to the United Way. The ticket cost also includes a chance to win one of the Christmas presents that were donated by Wal-Mart. United Way Director Debbie Guy added that Santa Claus might be able to make an appearance at the game.
The official kick-off for the United Way’s upcoming campaign year will be Aug. 17 at noon at Milligan College. The campaign goal for the 2012-2013 year is $182,000. Milligan College President Dr. Bill Greer was selected as this year’s campaign chair.
The Elizabethton/Carter County United Way serves nine agencies: Assistance Resource Ministries, the Elizabethton/Carter County Boys and Girls Club, Contact Ministries, the Elizabethton Senior Citizens Center, Boy Scouts, Community Daycare and Learning Center, Adult Day Services, Red Cross and the Upper East Tennessee Human Development Agency Community Service Center. Each of the agencies is scheduled to be at the fundraiser with information on their operations and activities.
