Round two went to University High’s softball team.
In a battle for supremacy in the Watauga Valley Conference, the Lady Junior Bucs pounded Unaka 10-3 on Wednesday at Hicks Field. The decision avenged a Rangers’ recent victory in the showdown of the bitter rivals.
“They won off hits, for sure,” Unaka coach Kayla Clawson said. “They won off hits and walks. We just had too many walks on our end.”
Belle Bright powered UH (8-7, 3-1) with a 4-for-4 effort at the plate, reaching safely in all five at-bats. She slammed two home runs and a double with three RBIs and three runs.
Haley Faulkner, the Junior Bucs’ ace, scattered eight hits while allowing the three earned runs. She struck out two and walked one.
