Softball can be a game of inches — and that proved to be the case for Carter County American on Friday afternoon.
Virginia got the RBI hit it needed in the seventh inning to break a 1-1 tie. The end result was a 2-1 loss in the first round of the 18-and-under Senior Little League Softball World Series played in Clearwater, Fla.
According to CCA manager Kenny Hardin, his team is to be commended.
“It was a great game — a defensive battle from start to finish,” said Hardin. “Three times we had a runner at second and couldn’t get her in. This Virginia squad was one of the best softball teams that I’ve seen in all my years of coaching. Our girls played super the entire game. We just didn’t get the breaks.”
