“Valentine’s Day” came early on Friday night at Snavely Gymnasium, but it wasn’t Cupid slinging love arrows. Instead, was Hampton’s Stanley Valentine dropping a double-double on Unaka.
Valentine scored 28 points and pulled down 12 boards as Hampton dominated the Rangers 87-63 in Watauga Valley Conference basketball action.
“We are coming off a loss and didn’t feel like we are playing our best basketball,” Valentine said. “We don’t want to lose no more. We want to get back to where we were early in the season where we do our thing, kick it in and out and play to the best of our ability.”
Hampton, which saw a 19-game winning streak end earlier in the week, is no one-trick pony, however. As good as Valentine was in the post, the play of guards Cody McClain and Coby Jones cannot be ignored — and the bench with Tyler Moody, Cameron Crain and Stone Hutchinson brings depth most teams can’t match.
