Victims’ relatives to speak at Bulger sentencing

BOSTON (AP) — Spectators are lining up at federal court in Boston, hoping to get a seat at the two-day sentencing hearing for gangster James “Whitey” Bulger (BUHL’-jur).

About 55 family members of victims are expected in court for the hearing Wednesday. Relatives of at least 11 victims who Bulger was convicted of playing a role in killing will get to speak.

The judge has not yet ruled on whether relatives of people whose murders Bulger was acquitted of will also be allowed to speak. Prosecutors are seeking two consecutive life sentences.

Gusina Tremblay, one of the jurors who convicted Bulger, is also in court this morning. She says she’s there to support the victims’ families and expects other jurors to be there too.
