An Elizabethton family continues to search for the body of Maj. Dale Alonzo Johnson, whose plane was shot down during the Vietnam War.
American and Vietnamese military officials and other soldiers have given the Johnson family varying reports on how the major died and where his body may be located. Johnson, who would have celebrated his 83rd birthday yesterday, remains on the minds of his surviving family members to this day, 46 years after his disappearance.
“His daughters wonder what happened to their dad,” said Johnson’s niece, Cindy Buck. “It’s awful.”
