It’s been a regular season football battle years in the making, with perhaps the biggest stadium in America serving as a backdrop.
Tennessee and Virginia Tech’s football programs will officially be on the docket for the 2016 season at Bristol Motor Speedway, a source with knowledge of the event told the Elizabethton Star.
Wednesday afternoon, track officials announced a press conference for a “major announcement” to the media for Monday at 11 a.m.
Virginia Tech athletic director confirmed to the Associated Press that both he and Frank Beamer would be present and it was an event that has “been in the works for ‘three or four months.’”
Neither University of Tennessee or Bristol Motor Speedway officials would officially confirm or deny the game, which was first reported early Wednesday afternoon by CBS Sports’ Bruce Feldman and ESPN’s Joe Schad, who later noted the game is likely to be played on September 10, 2016.
