Wallace D. McKinney


Wallace David McKinney, 77, of Elizabethton, passed away Friday, September 16, 2011, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton. A native of Avery County, N.C., he was a son of the late John and Ella Rose Holtsclaw McKinney. Mr. McKinney attended Old Horseshoe Free Will Baptist Church. He was a former employee of the Highway Department for the City of Elizabethton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Hughes Bailey, and a brother, Ernest McKinney.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline McKinney, of the home; two sons, Johnny Wayne McKinney and David Wade McKinney, both of the home; two daughters, Betty Graybeal and husband, Jeff, Elizabethton, and Sandra Kay Wilburn and husband, Jamy, Greeneville; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, J.D. McKinney and wife, Lee, Elk Park, N.C., and Sam McKinney and wife, Judy, Roan Mountain; and special friends, Ina Tribble, Margaret and Rick Trivette.

The funeral service for Mr. McKinney will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, September 19, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Justin Hodges officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, prior to the service hour. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 20, in the McKinney Family Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Ed Simerly, Barney Brown, Beau McKinney, Keith Hughes, Tyler Graybeal, Jeff Graybeal and Jeff McKinney. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
