On July 6, 2013, Brenna Julia-Katalin McKinney and Joseph Allen Smith were united in marriage at Hopwood Memorial Christian Church in a candlelit, double-ring ceremony. They were married on the 22nd anniversary of the bride’s parents. Dr. Greg Key, minister at West Side Christian Church, officiated the exchanging of vows and rings.
The bride is the daughter of Bryce and Beverly Ward McKinney. She is the granddaughter of Katalin McKinney and the late Ethan McKinney, Nathan and Julia Ward.
The groom is the son of Carolyn Lyons. He is the grandson of Barbara Lyons and the late Jessie Lyons.
Music for the ceremony included I Will Be Here, Steven Curtis Chapman, Here and Now, Luther Vandross, the processional, God Gave Me You, Blake Shelton, the Sand Ceremony, Lost in This Moment, Big and Rich, and recessional, Will You Still Love Me?, Chicago.
The bride, who was escorted by her parents, wore a white strapless gown of bridal satin with an organza overlay accented with seed pearls and sequins on the bodice, and waist, extending to the bottom of the skirt, down the chapel-length train.
She chose a double layer veil accented with seed pearls and sequins.
Her bouquet was designed and made by her mother and consisted of white calla lilies, purple and light blue rose buds, white open roses, purple and blue wisteria, and baby’s breath tied together with purple, blue and white tulle.
The engagement ring of her late grandmother, Julia Ward, was tied into the bouquet.
Sarah James attended the bride as maid of honor. She wore a black satin knee-length dress with spaghetti straps and an organza ruffle at the bottom.
She wore a purple sash around the waist that tied into a bow in the back. Her bouquet was made of white open roses, purple and blue rose buds, baby’s breath and tulle.
Bridesmaids were Brooke Pennington, Aston Slagle and Alison Peters, cousin of the bride. They were attired identically to the maid of honor with alternating purple and blue sashes.
Flower girls were Hannah McCloud and Mallory McKinney, cousins of the bride. Each was attired in a white tea-length dress with a lavender sash and butterflies on the skirt. They wore purple lilac halos tied with purple ribbon.
Jeff Smithpeters served as best man.
Groomsmen were Anthony Cole, Ryan McKinney, cousin of the bride, and Bryce McKinney.
Ring bearer was Carter McKinney, cousin of the bride.
Brenna and Joseph lit candles in memory of their grandparents, Ethan McKinney, Jessie Lyons and Julia Ward. A flower arrangement was placed on the sand table in honor of Brenna’s grandfather, Nathan Ward, who has since died.
After the ceremony a reception was held at West Side Christian Church Fellowship Hall.
Following honeymoon trips to Pigeon Forge and Tybee Island, Ga., the couple will reside in Elizabethton.
