Wesley singers will perform Sunday at Memorial Presbyterian

By

Memorial Presbyterian Church, 100 East F St., Elizabethton, will host the Wesley Singers from Tennessee Technological University during their Sunday morning worship service on Sunday, May 13, at 10:45 a.m.

The Wesley Foundation, a United Methodist campus ministry, has been serving Tennessee Technological University for over 50 years. Their choir, the Wesley Singers, is a student-led choir that sings in local churches throughout the academic year and ends each year with a tour to a major city. Recent tours have been to Charleston, S.C., Baltimore, Md., and Toronto.

In addition to Elizabethton, this year’s tour is to Greeneville, and Philadelphia, Pa., where they will sing in shelters for homeless men, women and families, health care facilities and churches. Kyle Tarwater, a senior majoring in vocal music education, is the director, and Katherine Weber, a senior majoring in chemical engineering and German, is the accompanist.

Gertitt Coetzee, a member of the ensemble, attends Memorial Presbyterian Church along with his parents Johann and Suze Coetzee. “Gerritt asked his campus minister and me if we would be able to schedule them for this year’s tour and we were delighted to do so,” said Rev. Dwight Basham, Pastor.

The public is invited to attend.
