Woman arrested after pursuit
A woman accused of fleeing police this weekend said she finally stopped because she did not want to hurt anyone.
Brittany Danielle Nidiffer, 23, of 457 Scott St., Butler, was allegedly observed traveling 67 mph in a 35 mph zone on Siam Road on Sunday afternoon. The vehicle allegedly straddled the double yellow lines and almost struck a police cruiser. Dep. Nick Andes of the Carter County Sheriff’s Department said he turned around, activated his lights and sirens and attempted to stop the silver Ford Escort. Andes said the vehicle sped up and began crossing the double lines, driving in the opposite direction of traffic.
The deputy caught up to the vehicle and it finally stopped near Jade Drive due to traffic. Both the driver, Nidiffer and a passenger, exited the vehicle and were handcuffed. The passenger was released but the driver was arrested for felony evading arrest, reckless driving and driving while suspended.
Andes said that while transporting the woman to jail, he told her he did not enjoy driving fast or pursuing vehicles. Nidiffer allegedly responded, “It’s pretty fun for a little while, but I stopped because I didn’t want to hurt anybody.”
