Workshops could be a foot in Y-12 door

By

Carter County businesses will be eligible to take part in workshops geared toward working under federal government contracts.

The First Tennessee Development District, a non-profit organization that fosters communication among government branches, will facilitate the training seminars in the upcoming months, and all industrial and construction firms are encouraged to attend.

“It’s an exciting opportunity for our region,” said FTDD Director Susan Reid. “(The government) actually approached us to get the word out.”

The project itself will be to rebuild the uranium processing facility inside the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, which was part of the Manhattan Project that produced the first atomic bomb.
